This LO is based on GYSO#16 sketch. This is taken at Zamboanga City when Jali was two years old. It was summertime and she really had a great time playing at the beach.

I thought of making a frame to give more emphasis on the picture, adding buttons, corrugated paper, chipboard and twine to create a 3D effect.

This LO is inpired by this month's challenge at Scrap our stash. My LO is about my cousin Venus with nieces and nephews while having picnic one sunny day in Tagaytay City. I simply decorated the face of the sun so it will look funny yet sexy, It was a perfect day and a lot of people are playing kites. I added a kite too by putting a string and embellishments. Its easter time, so I decided to put a bunny too. I prefer bright colors for my layouts.TFL!

This card is based on this week's sketch at Craft your Passion, I use Lauretta's digi stamp for this particular project. I put 3 starfish in lieu of flowers. What makes it more intersting is that I use real starfish, which is dried and colored. They are from Bohol and a friend gave it to me last summer. I simply added Hero Arts stamp for the sentiment.

I just love fairies. I discovered this blog and they have a DT call and you can also check some of their beautiful digi stamps.

Majority of the techniques I used is paper piercing. I also use felt paper to create a 3D effect. I added some glitters and blings to the wings.

Typhoon Ondoy

All of us here have their own stories to tell about their experience about the typhoon. The worst that happened to me was above waist water inside the house and upto neck flood outside the house.
Hours before, I can still be able to go outside and check the extent of the flood. If you noticed at the background, there are cars which they are trying to put in a safer area. After so many years living in this area, we never had experience flood, except outside. Little did I know that after 2 hours, my own car was also submerged in water and there’s nothing more I can do.

At Ondoys wake, the whole Marikina is submerged in water---murky, muddy, rancid and stale. It was happening too fast. So, we gather all things we can carry upstairs. One of our neighbors went outside to help us. At that time, the flood is only up to her waist on a tiptoe. I wasn’t able to take pictures anymore. I would say I was in state of shock. We cannot save all our things. It was just too painful to see things floating around (also the appliances). Some of the things we tried to save in the stairs float too.

Some of my friends, relatives and the community we live in are suffered too. Some stayed at their roofs.
Watching the flood outside, I can see cars with lights on, clothes, framed pictures, refs, tvs, etc. I just wished I could get it for them but the current is too strong for me. We were trapped. We cannot even open the doors downstairs. I am so hopeless. When we woke up, there’s no flood anymore inside, only full of mud. I went outside to look for food. There is no food available for sale. It was like a nightmare. I was walking in the mud and saw cars turned upside down, sacks of rice all wet. All establishments closed, no telephone, cables or signals. We eat at our terrace for days (glad we have sardines)
Though my family and I are safe and dry, does not give me guarantee to sleep soundly at night. I was informed that hundreds of people died and thousand of families have been forced out of their homes because of flooding by typhoon “Ondoy” and they are all at the evacuation center located just one block away from us. So, I found myself volunteering in the repacking of goods done at Brgy Malanday Office.

My aunt, Sr Sonia has also many packed goods donated by her friends and kind souls from everywhere. Together with my fellow officers of our village association, we were able to distribute packed food to the victims residing in Tumana (the part in Marikina which is greatly affected ) aside from Provident Village.

Right now, we are still cleaning the house and I hope school will open next week because some schools were used as evacuation centers. Even the Kindergarten room of my daughter Jali is submerged in water and all their things are totally washed out. Meanwhile,We still have tons and tons of garbage but we're trying to do something about it. MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, on the other hand is busy into his Cleaning Drive.

Two weeks has passed but we are still continuously experiencing disaster brought by typhoon in different parts of the country. There's also this terrible outbreak of leptospirosis. Many people died particularly in Malanday & Tumana, Marikina area. With all the tragedies brought about by Ondoy It may take time for many to recover from the onslaught of Ondoy specially in Marikina These past few days, I saw the best in us. I realized that the worst kind of tragedy is also the time when we see good come out of people.

This LO is based on this month's challenge on ED's Sketch. BTW, this is their first year anniversary.
Last March 2008, we went to Baras, Rizal to visit relatives. We stopped by at Baras Church and Jali immediately moticed and went to the big bell located outside. Baras Church is one of the oldest in the area, having been completed in 1686. The first church in Baras was built by the Franciscans in 1595. The town of Baras was transferred to Ibayo in 1682. It was the Jesuits who administered the parish from 1616 to 1679. The interior of the church was simply done. The altar and lecterns store artifacts unearthened beneath the church.

Last Saturday, the Friendly Ladies Group of Marikina (that includes me) had a picnic at Tanay, Rizal. It is a very beautiful place and the group really had fun. The place is only about 42 kilometers from Katipunan and Marcos Hi-way.

Altered File Challenge

This is my entry to artzdescrap challenge this month.

My daughter Jali enjoyed painting the folder. I was also inspired by the color of Twilight. Actually, this folder is for Pawandeep. They had been playmates and neighbors (since they were born) and they’re both 3 years old now.

I cut the picture in the shape of heart, put glue, transparent beads and sew the ribbon.Then I added other embellishments like buttons, ricrac,blings, etc.I also added decorative items on the paper clips.

Jali then gave this folder as a valentine present to her friend, Pawandeep. Inside the folder are some of their pictures and drawings.

Here's my interpretation of this week's sketch#17 of AdThis. To achieve this look, I printed 2 copies of my photos, cut the figure then emboss the edges with stylus (Fiskar Tool). I then add foam underneath the photo to create 3D effect.I also put photo corners for added dimension on the photo.

This is my entry to Artz de Scrap Beads Challenge. For this particular challenge, I made a necklace out of different kinds of beads. I choose murano bead as my pendant because it’s my favorite. Murano beads are made in Murano and Venice itself are among the most recognizable and coveted glass beads worldwide. The making of glass beads and “glass” in general from Murano dates back to 1291 when the Venetian government moved the glass makers out of the city to the island of Murano because of fire hazards associated with the glass making industry. The bead maker makes the bead from molten glass over an open flame. Most beads are made by women, many of them working out of their homes, carrying on a centuries-old tradition of hand-crafting beads from Moretti Effetre glass rods, the raw material for bead making. Beads made in the lamp-work method are the most time consuming, as each bead is made individually. Using a torch for heat, glass cane (also produced in Murano) is heated to a molten state and wrapped around a metal rod until the desired bead shape is formed. To this day Murano still remains the world leader in the hand manufacture of glass beads, jewellery and a wide range of other glassware.

Here’s the procedure on how I came up with the necklace.
1)I determine the length of my necklace and cut out beading wire.
2)Center the seed beads on the wire. On each side, I string seed beads then pass each end in opposite directions and pulled the wires to form a loop.
3)I then string alternating colors of colored crystal beads. On one end string a crimp bead and the flower lock. Go back through the last bead string and tighten the wire. Repeat on the other end, Crimp the crimp beads and trim the excess wire.

With the bracelet, I simply string beads in my nylon elastic thread. I use the beads artz de scrap send me. But I also added some pearls, crystal beads and hematite. I tie them together with a ribbon and added a murano bead accent.

I was also able to make one for a friend. For this project, I use murano pendant, murano beads (chips) and crystal beads. I hope she will like this one.
